Year-end car deals driving sales
Savvy car buyers who've been waiting for the right time to purchase a new vehicle may find now to be the ideal time.
Automakers are feverishly trying to clear out their showroom floors at the end of the year to make way for new 2013 models, and with that they are offering big ol' cash rebates and incentives.
Kelley Blue Book says some of the car sales in December will be due to demand from consumers in the Northeast replacing cars that were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. However, the bread and butter of the industry's sales will come from Americans who are salivating over the year-end deals, and can't help but get a slice.
Those making car purchases before the worst of winter hits should equip their cars with HuskyLiners® custom fit floor mats to keep their new car's carpet as clean as the day they drove it out of the dealership lot.
"As has been typical all year, consumers should expect to find zero-percent financing and aggressive lease offers available on most popular models," said Alec Gutierrez, senior market analyst of automotive insights for Kelley Blue Book. "While affordable financing is widely available, sizable cash rebates are offered only for a handful of segments and models. Consumers in the market for a full-size truck or SUV will find the most generous cash rebates, while compact or mid-size shoppers will want to check out any remaining model-year 2012 inventory for potential end-of-year savings."
KBB said great deals are being offered on the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Tahoe, Ram 1500 and Ford F-Series trucks, but those looking for the best deals can find them on smaller, 2012 model-year cars.
"An average buyer seeking a new car can expect to pay 93 percent of manufacturer's suggested retail price for a 2012 model year and only slightly more than that for a 2013," Gutierrez said.
Not to say there aren't good deals on vehicles that are highly regarded in safety, but if that is the sole factor when considering a car purchase, then look no further. A dozen Chrysler cars have just been named Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.
